Swine Flu to Hit Gambling
Land Based gambling and casinos have taken a bit of a hit since the explosion in popularity of online casinos and it looks like even more bad news for the industry as swine flu is to hit gambling. If the threatened epidemic spreads worldwide then more public gatherings will be cancelled hitting land based casinos around the world.
The death toll in Mexico is sadly still rising and reports of cases in the US have already shut schools and public gatherings. Public transport is being limited and those living in high risk areas are being advised to avoid public places like library’s, Movie theatres and casinos.
Cases of swine flu are now arising around the globe with countries like New Zealand, Spain, The UK and Belgium having cases confirmed daily and World Health Organisation officials are concerned that the virus may already be beyond measures to contain it.
Gaming experts believe that a pandemic could give land-based gambling yet another blow by keeping visitor numbers down at land based casinos as swine flu hits gambling. They believe that many people who are fearful of catching the virus will choose the internet and online gambling as a source of entertainment rather than risk entering land based casinos and possible catching swine flu.
If swine flu does reach pandemic proportions – preventing people leaving their houses for entertainment - then the number of home enjoyment choices are limited. This means that no doubt online poker rooms and some of our best casinos will no doubt be some of the chosen methods for passing the time during the crisis.
