ASA ban Facebook casino advert
If you’ve got a Facebook account, you can’t have failed to notice the tailored ads appearing on your homepage. Many of us just tune them out, which is a good job as many of them are irrelevant, but this week a story reaches us as the ASA ban a Facebook casino advert for encouraging players to gamble irresponsibly.
The advert in question was for 888 online Casino, concerning their ‘Spin a day for a year’ promotion. The wording for the 888 Casino advert stated “Addicted to slots? And featured a picture of a fruit machine. Further text stated that if you registered at 888 Casino, you would get 7 free spins a week for a year, no deposit necessary.
While Facebook seem to have come off quite well in the ruling, noting that they have little control over the content of the features ads unless someone complains. Cassava Enterprises, who own 888 Casino, argued that they actually removed the ads themselves after complaints. They state that the adverts were done by an external company and were published on several social networking sites before they had been consulted. Also in their defence, 888 Casino did state that the ads were never targeted at the young or vulnerable but were happy to remove them, a decision upheld by the ASA.
The whole thing it would seem has turned out very well, and all advertising is good advertising for 888 Casino. If you’d like to claim your free spins for a year you can head over there by clicking the banner above, but do bet responsibly.
