Craps

Craps is always a popular game in land-based casinos, and it can be just as rewarding when playing online. The game is played at a walled table using two dice, and in most casinos both dice must be rolled so that they hit the wall at the end of the table for that roll to be deemed legal. Of course, when playing online the dice are virtual, so all rolls are automatically rolled legally. The aim of the game is for the person rolling the dice (referred to as the “shooter”) to roll a particular number (referred to as the “point”) before they roll a 7. Both the shooter and other players watching the shooter can bet on how the result of each dice roll.

The game begins with the shooter rolling to establish his point, referred to as the “come out” roll. He rolls the dice and if the total is 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 then this number becomes his “point”. If he rolls any other number then he has failed to make his point and play passes to the next shooter.

Players can bet on whether the shooter will make his point before rolling a 7 with what is known as a “Pass Line” bet. This pays out odds of even money. If the come out roll is a 7 or 11 then the Pass Line bet wins. If the come out roll is 2, 3 or 12 then the Pass Line bet loses. If the come out roll is any other number then the shooter will need to roll that number again (make his point) before he rolls a 7, for the Pass Line bet to win.

If a player does not think that the shooter will make his point before rolling a 7 then he can place a “Don’t Pass Line” bet, again at odds of even money. If the come out roll is 7 or 11 the Don’t Pass Line bet loses. If the come out roll is 2, 3 or 12 then the Don’t Pass Line bet wins. If the come out roll is any other number then the shooter will need to roll a 7 before he rolls the same number again in order for the Don’t Pass Line bet to win.

If the shooter has already established his point (that is, if a player wants to bet after the come out roll) then he can bet that the shooter will make his point before a 7 with a “Come” bet or that the shooter will roll a 7 before he makes his point with a “Don’t Come” bet. Both pay out at odds of even money.

The Field bet allows the player to bet that the shooter will get 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 on the very next roll of the dice. If he wins he is paid at even money. If the shooter rolls any other number then the Field bet loses.

These are just a few of the bets that can be made in the game of craps, but if you intend to play for profit then it has to be said that these even money shots are the best ones to focus on. We say this because craps is a game of luck, and there is no strategy that will increase your odds of winning. For those of you who would rather take more of a risk in return for bigger odds, consult the rules page of the online casino you play at for full details of the other bets that are accepted.
